Mais ces érudits sont de mauvais gestionnaires. La Ville de Genève, appelée au secours, rachète le Musée en 1820 et l'ouvre au public... C'est le début d'une grande aventure. Deux cents ans après sa fondation, le Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Genève accueille 15 millions de spécimens et 300 000 visiteurs par an.
