Antonio Campana Botanico: inediti legami scientifici e familiari nella Firenze a cavallo tra XVIII e XIX secolo (2021)

unapi

We present the figure of Antonio Campana as botanist and his relationship with the Florentine scientific world, in particular his ties with the Targioni Tozzetti family. This study is the result of researches carried out at the historical archive of the University of Ferrara, on its exsiccata and the private correspondence kept at the Central National Library of Firenze. This study showed profound family ties of Campana with Ottaviano Targioni Tozzetti, husband of his sister Vittoria, director of the Botanical Garden of Firenze and keeper of one of the richest herbaria of the period, the one arranged by Pier Antonio Micheli and Giovanni Targioni Tozzetti. The rediscovered correspondence – together with that of Antonio not yet examined – opens new perspectives to better reconstruct the events of the Ferrara Botanical Garden in the first half of the XIX century
