Leonardo Da Vinci ebbe rapporti significativi con il paese di Bacchereto e le sue fornaci ceramiche, grazie anzitutto ai possedimenti di famiglia della nonna paterna Lucia, e poi del padre, ser Piero. Il volume ricostruisce gli studi di Leonardo e le sue molteplici esperienze anche nel plasmare l’argilla: è più che ragionevole considerare quindi un inizio all’arte del genio di Vinci non solo in Firenze ma pure a Bacchereto, in Comune di Carmignano. Questo territorio, con il suo Parco Archeologico immerso in un contesto naturalistico e paesaggistico tra i più belli della Toscana, è caratterizzato da splendide testimonianze etrusche e dalla mirabile villa medicea di Artimino, La Ferdinanda. Nel corso del XVI secolo iniziò la fase di decadenza di Bacchereto come centro di produzione della ceramica artistica. Dal 1974 la Soprintendenza Archeologica della Toscana ha avviato il recupero di numerosi frammenti di maioliche esposte nell’Antiquarium delle ceramiche medievali e rinascimentali baccheretane presso la Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta (sezione distaccata del Museo Archeologico di Artimino ‘Francesco Nicosia’) e l’individuazione delle fornaci attive soprattutto nel XV secolo, con riflessi nella Firenze protorinascimentale rivelati da produzioni eccellenti, che si trovano oggi in prestigiosi Musei di Europa, America e Australia.
