[Abstract translated by DeepL.com/Translator: This is the abstract in English… The name "America" first appeared on a map in a 1507 German planisphere. Its author was cartographer Martin Waldseemüller and its title referred to a "Universal Cosmography according to the tradition of Ptolemy and the navigations of Amerigo Vespucci and others." Dedicated to this map is the first volume of a series - "Orientamenti," conceived in collaboration with the Museo Galileo in Florence - devoted to historical cartography, a sphere little frequented by publishers but rich in historical information, curiosities, traces of ideas and beliefs, and artistically spectacular depictions. In this case, the fame of the planisphere-the only survivor of a run of twelve, preserved at the Library of Congress in Washington-is linked to the fact that it presents for the first time a place-name that will resonate throughout the centuries across the globe, America. It is there that the end of the traditional tripartition of the world begins; it is the arrival of the New World.]
