[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… This book analyzes the slow progress towards the knowledge on blood and the circulatory system as it evolved from Greek antiquity up to William Harvey. It is a universal epistemological model, in which the acquisition of new elements takes place - in a complex interweaving of truth and error, evidence and prejudice - by elaborating hypotheses, doctrines and theories which have constituted paradigms of knowledge and whose historical-scientific relevance should not be measured by their proximity to or adherence to current theories. The first part of the text focuses on the "creative phase of Greek science," where conceptions and doctrinal systems are formulated in large numbers and developed according to different guidelines. The "Galenic arrangement" is then taken into consideration. The third part focuses on the attempts proposed to perfect certain deficient aspects of the Galenic doctrine. The subject of the fourth part is the "crisis of the system"; on the basis of the growing contribution of experimental science, the galenic vision appears increasingly inadequate to interpret objective reality. Lastly, the book analyzes the ways in which Harvey approached the problems left unsolved by Galenism and the solutions that the English doctor brought to the various topics of cardiocirculatory physiology.]
