Los orígenes de la primera Escuela de Ingeniería en Chile [The Origin of the Eary School of Engineering in Chile] (2022)

unapi

Engineering began to be systematically taught in Chile towards the middle of the 19th century within the University in the form of courses leading to a career. But it is not until the beginning of the 20th century that a “School” was established, in the sense of a community of teachers, students, classrooms, laboratories, workshops, etc. in a physical space and with a dedicated institutional framework. This article studies the development of this model of institutionalization of engineering education, as well as its conflicts and tensions with the traditional university institutional framework.
