The physiognomy studies contained in Rubens' notebook, now lost, are a significant testimony of the impact that the 'quaestio physiognomonica', revived by Giovan Battista della Porta at the end of the 16th century, had on the young Nordic artist at the beginning of the following century. During this brief intervention, some drawings and notes by the Flemish master, which have come to us through handwritten copies, will be discussed and analyzed for the first time in relation to the Portian treatise.
