Książka Miry Marcinów, zawierająca antologię rodzimych tekstów z dziedziny psychopatologii, jest pierwszą próbą stworzenia archeologii polskiego szaleństwa. Księgi polskich obłąkanych XIX stulecia nie ma. Gdyby jednak istniała, trzeba by jej szukać gdzieś pomiędzy Liber chamorum, spisem luźnych ludzi czy katalogiem przypłotnic. Mieszkańcom szalonych kamienic, czubkom, smutnodurnym, ludziom zadumowym należałoby się jednak szczególne miejsce w tym konglomeracie wykluczonych. Historia polskiego szaleństwa w XIX wieku jest bowiem historią bezprecedensowej medykalizacji. Wiek XIX uznał prawo do choroby umysłowej, ale to wiek XX i XXI całkowicie utożsamił szalonego z „chorym na szaleństwo”.
