[Abstract translated by DeepL.com/Translator: This is the abstract in English… This volume describes the image of Trentino (a region in northeastern Italy) that emerges from the works compiled by French military engineers-topographers, whose activities took place in this area in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In particular, the book focuses on the Napoleonic era as a transitional period for French and European geography, during which a rethinking of the relationship between space and its representation began. The area of Trentino, among others, was the subject of intense reconnaissance, cartographic and planning work as a strategic space, the focus of Napoleonic geopolitical plans. This activity was the source of a vast production of materials (descriptive memoirs, statistical-military dictionaries, maps at topographic and chorographic scales, city views, depictions of battles, and plastic models) that constitute a valuable source for the study of these territories. Through their reports, these military-travelers drew statistical and landscape descriptions that were as realistic as they were picturesque.]
