Transnationale Technologietransfers: Einführung und Etablierung des Dampfschiffbaus bei Escher Wyss & Cie. (Transnational technology transfers: Introduction and establishment of steamship construction at Escher Wyss & Cie.) (2019)

[At the beginning of the 19th century, Switzerland had neither continuous navigable access to the sea nor a shipbuilding tradition as known to the great seafaring nations of the early modern era. When the company "Escher Wyss & Cie. in Zurich in 1836 - 16 years after the introduction of steam navigation on Swiss waters - started the production of steamships, neither theoretical and practical foundations nor trained specialists could be relied upon. Using the early history of the company and three people from Hans Caspar Escher's network, the book describes how the technology transfer of steam ships was carried out and how the development of shipbuilding as an independent department within the company and the establishment of a new industry during the 1860s and 1850s proceeded.]
