[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… Welcoming the members of the nation who for various reasons could be outside their natural borders and taking care of them, not only from a therapeutic point of view, but also for their legal and social protection, were the two main objectives of the constellation of hospitals, convents and brotherhoods of the nations formed in the different domains of the Hispanic Monarchy between the 16th and 17th centuries. In them, in Rome as in Naples, Madrid and Palermo, in Lisbon as in Milan or Malines, a plurality of people in situations of hardship or poverty were welcomed, who could be guaranteed easy access to medical care and personal care. The history of these institutions seen in a comparative dimension gives new light to spaces and actors that historiography has not always put in an appropriate dialogue with each other: sick people and scenes of treatment, for example, medical plants and therapeutic indications, sailors and war refugees , nuns and clandestine travels, economic operators and diplomatic agents who, coming into contact in the shared space of hospitals or conservatories, shared practices and codes of communication, often shortening the cultural distances that separated them.]
