Los investigadores actuales, siguiendo la tradición de la doxografía romana, han venido manteniendo la tesis de una concepción, por parte de Anaximandro, de una Tierra como planeta de forma cilíndrica; sin embargo, el análisis profundo de la información disponible sobre Anaximandro, a la luz de los autores griegos de época clásica y helenística, avalarían una concepción esférica del planeta, lo que concordaría con las teorías científicas y, sobre todo, la tesis geocéntrica del Universo basada en una explicación geométrica, expuestas por el filósofo.
