1920s: Rádio Sociedade (Society Radio), tuning science into Brazilian homes (2021)

Description An excerpt from the text: "This was therefore an organized movement to fight for better conditions for the development of science in Brazil. Basic science, then viewed as “pure” and “unbiased,” was fiercely defended. It was precisely in this setting that science communication gained great relevance in its role as a tool for raising society’s awareness and convincing decision makers that investing in science was important. This objective would be partially achieved with the creation in the 1930s of the first faculties in Brazil of philosophy, science, and letters that made possible the university training of the first researchers in the country. Using public science communication as a strategy to convince society in general and government authorities in particular, about the importance of investing in science, would become an action that would be repeated a few times, in the following decades, by the Brazilian scientific community."
