De mundi recentioribus phænomenis. Cosmologie et science dans l’Europe des Temps modernes, XVe - XVIIe siècles. Essais en l’honneur de Miguel Ángel Granada (2023)

unapi

"On the most recent phenomena of the universe": the title of this collection of essays offered to Miguel Ángel Granada is taken from Tycho Brahe's work on the comet of 1577. It alludes to the link between the prodigies that crossed the sky between the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th centuries (the supernovas of 1572 and 1604, the great comets of 1577 and 1618) and the profound philosophical, religious and cultural changes that marked this period. Miguel Angel Granada's work over the last thirty years has continued to deepen this link. By exploring the complexity of the so-called Scientific Revolution, he has also been a major player in the transformation and expansion of the history of science: the study of mathematical astronomy, which has long been central, is now integrated into a history of knowledge, institutions, and political and religious contexts. The articles in this collection are part of this process. They are inspired by the discoveries and ideas of this great researcher, and extend some of his investigations, addressing all fields, from metaphysics to astrology. In this way, they restore the image of a learned Europe in the process of being constituted through the circulation and dissemination of ideas, from Rostock to Naples, from Lisbon to Prague, or from London to Wittenberg.
