La parola scritta riveste un ruolo fondamentale nel mondo arabo-islamico. Le tecniche legate alla produzione libraria hanno sviluppato fin dai primi secoli alti livelli di specializzazione, ereditando e raffinando procedure già in uso ed elaborandone di nuove. L’arte della preparazione degli inchiostri si inserisce in questo quadro culturale e riversa ben presto le descrizioni delle sue procedure in forma di ricette. La scelta antologica presentata nel volume mostra come tali contenuti siano stati aggregati e organizzati in compilazioni che tra il IX e il XIII secolo circolavano sotto il nome di autori con competenze scientifiche diverse e che attingevano contestualmente alla tradizione scritta, oltre che alla loro esperienza diretta. In una prospettiva intertestuale, l’autrice mostra aspetti di queste tradizioni che mettono in luce la particolare considerazione riservata agli inchiostri, in una continua tensione tra dimensione tecnica e operativa e aspetti filologici e letterari.
