La collezione bruniana della Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma (2023)

unapi

If it is true, as Rita Sturlese stated in her bibliography, that « Bruno’s editions did not appear by chance in private libraries », the same can be said of what happens in public collections. The article reconstructs the history of the Bruno collection in the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale in Rome. To the historical collection derived from the Jesuit library and some private Roman libraries of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the main nucleus was added in 1933. The Ministry of National Education acquired it from the sale of Angelo Marzorati’s library, at the urging and encouragement of Antonio Bruers and Giovanni Gentile, and destined to the National Library as the outcome of a deliberate choice related to the cultural policy of Fascism. Two editions from the Marzorati sale, which were already kept at the National Library, were sent to the Biblioteca Estense in Modena. The article also points out some hitherto unknown early owners. This is case, for instance, of the four editions kept at the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice, once belonging to Apostolo Zeno.
