The topic of a possible reconstitution of Leonardo’s library on the basis of his own inventories of books is here approached by means of some critical considerations on three important exhibitions promoted in the context of the celebrations of the 500 years after his death. In this perspective, the recurrence of Pliny the Elder’s "Naturalis Historia" throughout Leonardo’s whole life and career is examined as a pivotal example.
