Politica iuxta naturae principia. Il fondamento naturale della politica in Campanella (2022)

unapi

Campanella’s political theory is a direct expression of his conception of nature. It is precisely moving from this principle that he could claim the correctness and truthfulness of what he was arguing in his political writings. This substantial agreement of politics and nature was reiterated in several texts published in Paris in the second half of the 1630s, when he managed to print such works as Atheismus, De praedestinatione and the four Quaestiones related to De politica. Not only did Campanella assume that nature validated his political proposals; he also stated that human beings needed nothing but nature to know God and to act according to moral standards. Unsurprisingly, one of the most serious charges levelled at Campanella by ecclesiastic inquirers was that he naturalized religion and removed the role of supernatural agency.
