Passo dopo passo, giorno dopo giorno, Smeraldo Smeraldi, ingegnere, architetto e cartografo dei Farnese, ha lasciato una impronta profonda sul territorio dei Ducati di Parma e Piacenza, testimoniata da carte, relazioni, disegni, progetti (1580-1634). Il volume propone un itinerario conoscitivo del contesto geografico, politico, culturale e territoriale nel quale è fiorita l’opera di uno dei più importanti cartografi farnesiani. La lettura di diari e cartografie, restituita nell’apparato critico dell’opera, rivela il farsi della trama di conoscenze e interventi che viene delineando l’assetto del territorio e, con il fluire del tempo, il paesaggio. La poliedricità dell’operare e dei saperi di Smeraldo è assunta a riferimento simbolico per il Progetto di rilevante interesse nazionale Fontes.
