Observations of the Great September Comet of 1882 (C/1882 R1) from New Zealand (2020)

unapi

We review New Zealand newspaper accounts of this impressive comet, and we critically examine the popular claim someone from Auckland, New Zealand, was one of the first in the world to see and report the comet. We conclude by reviewing the concept of nuclear splitting and the Kreutz family of sungrazers.
