Thābit ibn Qurra’s "On Talismans," after its translation from Arabic in the early twelfth century, was repeatedly defended as being a work of science rather than magic. By the late fifteenth century, however, it was a regular item in collections of magical texts. A Renaissance revision of the text (edited here), evidently made in the circle of Johannes Trithemius and Henricus Cornelius Agrippa, shows the character that it had assumed by the early sixteenth century.
