[Abstract translated by DeepL.com/Translator: This is the abstract in English… The transformation of medical science began in the heart of the Counter-Reformation. Pandemics had prompted a creative effort even within the most conservative form of medical writing, the treatise. The "Protomedico" Giovan Filippo Ingrassia, trained between Palermo, Padua and Ferrara, composed a complex text to outline the figure of the "medical expert," inaugurating the modern science of forensic medicine. He placed reflection on the legacy of the past alongside anatomical practice, participating in the debate on experimentation, the prerequisites of which were a renewed worldview and a common philosophical-scientific language. At the request of courts of justice, Ingrassia followed various trial events with a method of inquiry - extrapolating analogies from the mass of medical theory and exercising the practice of autopsy examination - that opened up new perspectives. This book offers a comparative reading of the history of forensic medicine, tracing its initiatory journey from the Renaissance through the eighteenth-century medical police to the political medicine of the nineteenth century.]
