Wolf, Edward D. (Author)
The Wolf Telescope collection book features a wide variety of telescopes primarily from the 1700s and 1800s made by more than seventy different makers. The book begins with background information about the collection and the author, and provides an introduction to the collection. In roughly the first half of the book the author presents 111 telescopes in nine virtual galleries where each telescope is highlighted with overview and detailed professional full-color photographs with supportive text including the maker(s), date and country of origin, optical features, accessories, etc. The last half of the book provides several illustrative comparison studies and extensive documentation of numerous restoration projects carried out by the author over a little more than a decade. In summary, the book provides beautifully photographed close-up views of selected optical floor-standing, tabletop (library), and handheld (spyglass) telescopes from the two-century period when astronomy opened our eyes to the universe surrounding us.
