[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… This volume aims to reconstruct the mechanisms of geographical literacy that began in Europe in the 15th century, in the aftermath of the first Spanish and Portuguese explorations in the Atlantic Ocean. Late medieval geography, in fact, was not yet an epistemologically compact discipline as we are used to thinking of it today. The projection onto the seas and the expansion onto the new continents of the European states, however, required the development of new theoretical tools and intellectual categories capable of facilitating this process. Thus it was that drawing from geometry, natural philosophy, astronomy, and even rhetoric and religion, modern geography was born. In this mechanism, schools of all levels, thanks to the pedagogical innovations of the Renaissance of the early modern age, played a central role. Within the book, the birth of geography as a school discipline will therefore be analyzed within the framework of the political, economic, religious, scientific and cultural transformations that crossed Europe between 1400 and 1800, without ignoring the contemporary debate on the role of this discipline in today's society and school.]
