The Embryo Project and the Emergence of a Digital Infrastructure for History and Philosophy of Science (2007)

The international collaborative Embryo Project1, housed at Arizona State University is developing an online open access encyclopedia covering 2500 years of embryo research in multiple varied contexts. It is also one of the core projects that make up a new initiative to bring the tools of the bioinformatics revolution in the life sciences to the areas of history and philosophy of science (HPS)2. This paper discusses the structure and accomplishments of the Embryo Project in the wider context of digital HPS with a special emphasis on ongoing work in developing a cyberinfrastructre for HPS.
