Un anniversaire sur un volcan (2020)

unapi

The jubilee of French scientific psychology, organised by its foremost advocate, the psychologist Henri Piéron, was celebrated in July 1939. This article reconstructs the ceremony's organisation, in its singular context of mounting international tension and imminent war. Drawing on the resulting publication, it addresses what was commemorated, how the ceremony unfolded, and the politics of science that subtended it. The event, which was something of a failure in the light of Piéron's ambitions for it, can be read as an inaugural moment in the conversion of Piéron's French scientific psychology into national heritage.
