On Historiography of Teaching and Learning Mathematics (2014)

unapi

This chapter first outlines the development of the historiography of mathematics education from its beginnings in the nineteenth century and the thematic focus of published studies. While for a long time the studies were pursued within the realm of the national history of education, over the last decades a growing emphasis was placed on international and comparative aspects and approaches. The chapter next discusses connections with neighboring disciplines such as history, history of education, sociology, and history of mathematics.
