Le contenu mathématique et les structures déductives des trois livres du traité "Les Sphériques" de Théodose de Tripoli (2016)

unapi

This work discusses two aspects of the treatise "The Spherics" of Theodosius of Tripoli: the mathematical and the logical aspect (deductive structure). Our research will demonstrate that we can't so easily situate "The Spherics" in the area of a mere compilation of propositions already known because 1) in his three books, the author developed a series of propositions that solve different problems; and 2) by the establishment of deductive structures, we notice that he organizes his demonstrations in a rather remarkable way. The comparison of propositions with those of "The Moving Sphere" of Autolycus of Pitane and The Phenomena of Euclid will show his membership in the tradition of study sections and lines in a sphere. Also, considering his other treatises, we see that his program is consistent with the content of the astronomico-mathematical corpus of his time.
