Baschin, Marion (Author)
ENGLISH: What was the everyday life of a doctor in the 19th century? What factors determined his practice? These questions are answered by Marion Baschin in her socio-historical investigation of the medical work of Friedrich Paul von Bönninghausen (1828-1910). Bönninghausen practiced between 1864 and 1910 in Münster in Westphalia as a homeopath. He had taken over the practice of his father Clemens von Boenninghausen and led as he hospital records. The quantitative and qualitative evaluation of a representative selection of these journals allows an insight into the everyday practice of the homeopathic doctor. The personality of Bönninghausen, his knowledge as well as the clientele of his practice, the illnesses treated there and all aspects of the administrative, communicative and therapeutic organization of the medical activity are considered. Thus, the everyday life of a probably largely "average" homeopathic medical practice in the late 19th century can be reconstructed. It stands out above all that Bönninghausen's homeopathic practice is more similar to that of other physicians than one might suspect.
