[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… The recipe book published here under the factitious title of Liber medicine ex quadrupedibus consists of a compilation of medical remedies (both magical and pharmacological) made with substances and organs from quadruped animals. For the most part, material is reworked from a probably late-ancient work entitled Liber medicine ex animalibus, attributed to an enigmatic Placitus Sextus; the other third comes from various sources (not all identified) that were surely adapted in a similar way to that one. The compilation is anonymous and dates from the early medieval period. The great coincidence with the Liber medicine ex animalibus has caused that one and the other recipe books have been considered as two redactions of a lost original and that both have been attributed to Sextus Placitus: the consideration of Liber medicine ex quadrupedibus as an «alpha redaction» of Sextus Placitus has resulted in some methodological errors in the editing of the text, which are intended to be corrected here. For the rest, the work is of great interest for the knowledge of late medieval medicine (specifically zootherapeutic medicine, a genre little represented) and for the study of the history of the Latin language and the forms of transmission of the texts called "Alive."]
