A historical-evolutionary epistemology entwined with a research program based on logical neo-realism is an innovative proposal that cuts across the traditional contemporary epistemological debate. It builds on a complex and articulated tradition of thought ranging from late medieval scholasticism to the contributions of Husserlian phenomenology and Bachelard’s reflection that “science instructs reason.” This is the project of a new critical rationalism to identify the “nuclei of apodicticity” present within the sciences.
