Was bedeutete ‚Heilung‘ - oder ‚recovery‘ - in einer psychiatrischen Einrichtung in Großbritannien um 1900? Wie wurde definiert, was eine Heilung ausmachte? Und besonders, welche Akteur_innen hatten welche Vorstellungen und welchen Einfluss in den Aushandlungsprozessen um ‚Heilung‘? Diesen Fragen spürt der Beitrag anhand eines ‚pauper lunatic asylum‘ in Glasgow, dem Woodilee Asylum, zwischen 1875 und 1925 nach. Bei der Analyse von Kranken- und Patient_innenakten sowie Gesetzen, Verwaltungsschriftgut und wissenschaftlicher Literatur zeigt sich die Komplexität des Begriffs Heilung in der Praxis des Anstaltsalltags.
