Forgione, Fabio (Author)
[Abstract translated by Google Translate: This is the abstract in English… During the nineteenth century, Turin was the main forum for the development and discussion of evolutionary theories in Italy, precisely in the same decades in which the city was the fulcrum of decisive events for the history of this country. Starting from this dual centrality, this study reconstructs the evolutionary events in Turin, highlighting the interferences between the naturalist's research directions and the phases of political-social transformation. Within the framework of a long continuity of studies, first directed by Lamarck's transformation and then arriving at the Darwinian paradigm, the figures of Franco Andrea Bonelli, Filippo De Filippi and Michele Lessona stand out. The three zoologists, authoritative advocates of evolution, were protagonists of the key moments of its affirmation and promoted it even outside the academic circle. Through the analysis of manuscript and printed sources, the author explores the production and use of theses on species variability in the light of contemporary political and religious orientations. The Turin tradition of thought thus reveals itself as a significant example of the clashes and alliances between scientific research and power, which were decisive in the history of evolutionary doctrines.]
