This paper looks at the nexus connecting some pivotal sections of Federico Cesi's "Tabulae phytosophicae" with his collection of botanical drawings in "Syntaxis plantaria." It dwells on Cesi's views on vital functions (nutrition, growth, reproduction), linked to his experimentation and observation regarding the elementary constitution of vegetables. Then, it points out how Cesi's botanical research was connected to his collection of drawings, in particular during the period when he came in possession of the microscope Galileo built for him. Cesi extensively used this new scientific instrument to explore vegetative reproductive apparatuses, as well as any kind of inner and outer features that could lead him to the discovery of some common and shared characteristics between different specimens.
