Seit dem Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts stieg in Europa die Kattundruckerei auf, die auf neuartigen, vor allem von indischen Handwerkern übernommenen Färbemethoden beruhte. Am Beispiel der schweizerischen Kattundrucker geht der Beitrag der Frage nach, auf welchen Wegen das Wissen der neuen Techniken verbreitet wurde und wie sich ihre Aneignung vollzog. Er verortet die Praxis und Diskurse der Indiennage in der Wissenskultur des 18. Jahrhunderts, in der sich technisches und gelehrtes Wissen in vielfacher Weise ergänzten und ineinander übergingen, und zeigt, welche Bedeutung die Erprobung und Kommerzialisierung von Rezepten für das Erlernen der neuen Färbetechniken besass.
