Landschaften, Naturgegenstände und Portraits der indigenen Bevölkerung bringt der begnadete Zeichner eigenhändig zu Papier. Sein Nachlass umfasst schließlich mehr als hundert Kisten. Doch der naturkundliche Schatz muss den Rückweg alleine antreten: Mit 42 Jahren ertrinkt Sellow im Rio Doce, nachdem sein Boot einen Felsen rammte.Die Erkundung Brasiliens. Friedrich Sellows unvollendete Reise ist das erste deutsche Buch über die Frühzeit der Erkundung Brasiliens, stellt Sellows Reisen in den Kontext anderer Expeditionen,liefert prächtiges Bildmaterial des damaligen Brasilien und breitet vor uns vor allem Sellows Leben und die Erträge seiner Reisen aus: seine bisher unerschlossenen und hier erstmals präsentierten Tagebücher, Texte und Bilder.
