Fear of technology has a bad reputation. It is often seen as irrational, unfounded and hostile to innovation. The ascription of fear has at times been used to defame critics of technology. Günther Anders, for example, complained in the 1950s that there was “nothing more precarious [...] that blames a man so promptly as the suspicion that he was a machine critic”.
