unapi

Apart from the two most known traditional Chinese wooden structures, the Chuan Dou wooden structure and the lifting beam( Tai Liang) wooden structure, another kind of structure, the inclined beam wooden structure was originated from the ancient primitive scaffolding structure. The inclined beam wooden structure may have played an important role in history, but it faded out during the development of the wooden structure technology. While it is hard for one to find inclined beam structure in existing ancient official buildings,it is still able to be found among vernacular architectures. The lifting beam( Tai Liang) wooden structure,Chuan Dou wooden structure has been studied in detail, but inclined beam wooden structure has not been specially studied. This paper focuses on the oblique beam structure of the remains of existing ancient buildings and houses. In this study, the basic characteristics of oblique beam structure is analyzed and summarized. New thoughts are put forward about oblique beam structure in the study. The discussion on the origins and cultural significance of the oblique beam structure has a significent reaserch value on the history of ancient Chinese architecture.
