The Haupt Iron Bridge on the Pennsylvania Railroad (1988)

Before the Civil War, the Pennsylvania Railroad used a type of iron bridge unlike that on any other railroad. This paper reviews its development, describes and analyzes its structure, and concludes that it was designed by Herman Haupt and was the first of its type in this country and perhaps in the world.
