Textes & Documents: Les Tapuscrits Barcelonais sur le probléme de l'espace de Weyl (2015)

unapi

In March 1922, Hermann Weyl gave a series of eight lectures in Barcelona and Madrid on the Problem of Space. The following year, he published a monograph in German which incorporates the content. In October 2013, I learnt the existence of typescripts at the Institute of Catalan Studies in Barcelona (IEC), which contain texts in French, German and Spanish about these conferences. These documents were classified a few years ago by the members of the institute. In this article, I present these documents and I set out the chronology of the events around Weyl's conferences in Barcelona. Then, I explain why these documents have remained so long ignored outside the IEC. Finally I deepen the work of interpretation of these documents already accomplished, by including the German part of the history of Weyl's problem of space, and by studying the relationship between these new documents and Weyl's published texts on the problem of space.
