What remains from the research, in addition to published results, depending on science and scientists also objects, practices or technologies, as residuals of individual scientific work, such as the German Literature Archive in Marbach to bestaunende Zettelkasten system of philosophers Blumenberg. Why is all this - not only for science historians and historians of science - of interest? Western societies of the late 20th and 21st century is often attached the label of "knowledge society", 1 to describe their post-industrial character, so the fact that in these societies the - mainly used - science and technology of (physical) work are without boundaries. Knowledge and science are long in the normative sense become orientating factors guide the political, social and individual decisions and actions. From this, can the mantra of the accelerated production of knowledge to explain a seemingly exponential growth of information, but life in our post-industrial society is explained by science, supported by technology and running and by the biomedical - biological of the contingencies - at least in areas existence freed. The research and performance of individuals, seems to work as a researcher person increasingly in ever wider spanned scientific networks of the (global) distributed knowledge production, therefore is for the history of science, both of particular interest in creating Orientierungswissen2 as well as a special challenge. This will be lit here in three steps and with occasional reference to the life and work of the biochemist Carl Djerassi. The provisional nature of the presented here results here in a matter of understandable and informal way from the above itself.
