What is the mathematical analysis? a wide field related to calculus? a sub-domain of algebra? a point of contact with the Physics and Mathematics? And if it can be defined, how to write the story? Suzanne Fery, pseudonym of the editors of this book, offered more than twenty historians of mathematics from all sides, if not to treat the subject as a whole, at least to approach targeting various themes or characters of the Analysis from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries. This volume, written on the occasion of 65 years of Christian Gilain, focuses course to favorite authors of this historian of the analysis (D'Alembert, Condorcet, Cauchy, Poincaré) but attack well to Others, such Frenicle, Varignon, Riccati the Bernoulli, Maupertuis, Cramer, Clairaut, Lagrange, Bézout, Cousin, Laplace, Monge, Weierstrass, H. Weyl or Borel ... The collected contributions concern both major internal topics in mathematics (convergence, differential equations, curves, real or complex functions, Riemann surfaces, etc.) that physical, mechanical or astronomical fields treated with the ways of the analysis. They also address biographical, institutional, political, military or teaching. May this book give a taste of the historical investigation of the unity and variety of mathematical analysis through the centuries!
