Lindner, Sigrid Annemarie (Author)
In this study, it is not just about the discovery of significant Meissner effect, but in particular to Walther Meissner services in cryogenics and as founder of the institute. Meissner founded the first German Cryogenic Institute at the Physical-Technical Institute in Berlin, where he worked until 1934. In that year he moved to Munich on a chair at the Technical University, where he continued in the same field research, but also in the materials research new ground. For this period is also the question of the responsibility of the researcher in the "Third Reich" in focus, in particular because of the Meissner life again and again with the John Starks crossed, the main representative of ideologically based "German Physics". When, in the course of World War II occurred material and personnel shortages to be Meissner Institute for Low Temperature Physics decided in the management of Carl Krauch system of four-year plan to integrate research. After the war, forced by circumstances to a complete reorientation of resource management. When work in the Institute of Refrigeration in Mr. Ching came to a halt, Meissner founded the "Official Testing Institute for Technical Physics", which should be worn on the fees for appraisals themselves. Another great chapter deals with the spin-off of the refrigerant Institute of the College and its establishment as an Institute of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. To accomplish this, Meissner used his position as its president. Finally, an outlook on the development of his cold Institute for major research facility, which is located in Garching near Munich since 1950 and since 1982 bears his name.
