At the end of the 19th century, a new chapter in elementary geometry appears in textbooks for the French classes préparatoires: the ``new triangle geometry.'' The present paper analyses the evolution of this new triangle geometry from its initial status of isolated research contributions provided by a network of authors, to its standing as a chapter of geometry. The mathematical contents, the authors' profiles and the journals which allowed the circulation of this research all have an intermediate character. This highlights in a new way the texture of the mathematical community in France during the second half of the 19th century.
