The Woman Who Challenged an Academy of Sciences: Émilie du Châtelet and the Meaning of the Publication of Dissertation sur la nature et la propagation du feu (1744) (2013)

This paper analyzes three articles in Disertaion sur la nature et la propagation due feu, which was published by Emilie dur Chatelet in 1744, through the viewpoint of the Academy of Sciences and women." What is revealed here is that while these three articles dealt with "fire" and "vis viva", seemingly different themes lack unity as a book, in the fact, everything had a deep connection with the Paris Academy of Sciences. In the 18th century, the Academy of Science was a major authority system amoing academia in Europe, but it has a major contradiction when it came to gender issues. The Academy wlecomed women as audience members, but at the same time forbade them from acting as a participants.
