Around 1900 Leuven photographer Edouard Morren made a unique photo reportage Leuven University buildings. The 78 pictures were bound in a luxurious album, which is kept at the University of Leuven archive. This new edition, a hardcover bound in linen with special bracts and read ribbon makes this historically important album now accessible to a wide audience. The extensive introduction and commentaries on the photographs in Dutch and English, a picture of a university long ago. The pictures show the former university buildings auditoriums, laboratories, drawing rooms and cutting rooms, reading rooms and libraries, university pharmacy, dairy and brewery of the Agricultural Institute. Of many depicted interiors are no other known images. The book not only provides a fairly comprehensive overview of the entire university, it also pays considerable attention to the laboratories that testify to the emerging scientific approach of academic education. Omstreeks 1900 maakte de Leuvense fotograaf Edouard Morren een unieke fotoreportage over de Leuvense universiteitsgebouwen. De 78 foto's werden ingebonden in een luxueus fotoalbum, dat op het Leuvense universiteitsarchief wordt bewaard. Deze vernieuwde uitgave, een in linnen gebonden hardcover met bijzondere schutbladen en leeslintje, maakt dit historisch waardevolle album nu toegankelijk voor een ruim publiek. De uitgebreide inleiding en commentaren bij de foto's in het Nederlands en het Engels, schetsen een beeld van een universiteit van lang geleden. De foto's tonen de toenmalige universiteitsgebouwen: auditoria, laboratoria, tekenzalen en snijzalen, leeszalen en boekerijen, de universitaire apotheek, de melkerij en de brouwerij van het Landbouwinstituut. Van heel wat getoonde interieurs zijn geen andere afbeeldingen bekend. Het boek biedt niet alleen een vrij volledig overzicht van de hele universiteit, het besteedt ook ruim aandacht aan de laboratoria die getuigen van de opkomende verwetenschappelijking van het academisch onderwijs.
