Enlightenment is really the period of debate and philosophical ideas which our Western values has produced? Rienk Vermij sweeps the wealth of ideas of the Enlightenment are not under the carpet, but places that were in the political and social context of the time. By showing what specific problems the ideas were an answer, and what forces influenced its success, he thinks the role of the eighteenth-century thinkers and poets.
