Language: Turkish

At the end of 1940's, nuclear physics started to draw the attention of Turkish academics and readership. In 1950s, courses on nuclear physics were launched, textbooks were written and research articles saw the printing press. In 1955, Departments of Atomic Physics were established both in the Istanbul and Ankara University. Well known nuclear physicists like Werner Heisenberg, Otto Hahn and Thomas Allibone gave public conferences in Istanbul University and Ankara University between the years 1950-1955. Parallel to the establishment of atomic physics departments in Turkey's universities; the public conferences given by these well-known scientists provided the audience with information on the theory and applications of atomic physics. By publishing interviews and announcements, the newspapers helped in drawing public attention to this topic. The conferences given by O. Hahn and T. Allibone were published by the Faculty of Science of Istanbul University. Key words: Thomas Allibone, Otto Hahn, Werner Heisenberg, Istanbul University Faculty of Science, Ankara University Faculty of Science, History of physics, Nuclear physics.
