Ahmet Atilla (1914-2008) was head gardener in the Botanical Garden of stanbul University for 20 years between 1944 and 1964. He was an agriculturist. He has been a plant collector. He accompanied the researchers of the Botanical Institute (Istanbul University, Faculty of Science) and reknown foreign collectors in their Anatolian travels, procured herbarium material for ISTF and also fresh native material, mainly geophytes, in order to grow and propagate them in the University's botanical garden. He was with Ord.Prof.Dr. A.Heilbronn in 1947 in Northeast Anatolia. In 1949, he participated to the third Anatolian visit of P.H. Davis. In 1950, he assisted A.Huber-Morath in his fifth Anatolian travel. Between 1971 and 1984, he accompanied Prof.Dr. T.Baytop in eight of his Anatolian expeditions. Flora of Turkey cites ca. 60 of his specimens which are collected between 1947 and 1961 from 20 provinces. His specimens are kept in ISTF. A research in this herbarium may tell about the size of his collection. He has also specimens housed in E, K, and Hb.Hub.-Mor. He collected 4 types jointly with P.H. Davis and K.Bilger (later K. Karamano lu). Two species have been named after him: Alkanna attilae (Boraginaceae) and Gladiolus attilae (Iridaceae). The botanical literature writes his name as Attila.
