Institutos Privados de Investigación “Pura” Versus Políticas Públicas de Ciencia y Tecnología en la Argentina (1943--1955) (2013)

unapi

In June 1943 occurred in Argentina a coup that began the process of a major confrontation between industry and academic scientists facto military government. As a result, many scientists lost their jobs at universities, including the group led by physiologist Bernardo Houssay, he was going to get the Nobel Prize in Physiology in 1947. At that time, this group of doctors urged the creation of a series of private research institutes supported by local philanthropists and the Rockefeller Foundation. This process continued for the democratic government of Juan Perón (1946-1955). This article analyzes this "project" Creation of private institutions-their motivations and objectives-as a process of "parallel" and divergent with respect to science-driven and technology from the public sector initiatives institutionalization. This "splitting" of the institutionalization process, embodied in ideologies, institutional models and epistemic hierarchies hardly compatible, would have far-reaching consequences for the future development of research in Argentina.
